I was able to resolve the issue myself by installing 2 plugins:
Add Categories to Pages by a.ankit for adding a category to my page.
List category posts by Fernando Briano which provides a widget that is able to display posts of the current category.

thank you for your advice which helped to ease the situation a little. However, my page speed especially for mobile is still very poor. I know that I should compress photographs even further. Besides this: what are your recommendations for improving the speed even further? Is there anything I can do within the Customizer, or do you recommend using dedicated optimization plugins for wordpress?

issue is resolved. It’s not about the Intro loader, but the widgets mentioned in the headline to this threat. If you try to change the picture only, the new pictures won’t save. So I had to change some text as well. Then the “SAVE” button became clickable, and the changed pictures where saved as well.
