update: the wrapper css helped a bit but when i refreshed onto big screen without the customise sidebar i still have large spaces at the side:

Great that has fixed the large margins.

Can you please offer advise on my other requests?

* Changing footer text colour to black
* enlarge site title. i tired enlarge the H1 css but it made no difference.
* changing the background colours in the other pages (they seem to default to orange even though i have update this in options.)

Your help is much appreciated.
